- How do I obtain a CableCARD?
1. What is a CableCARD?
The CableCARD, now available to Bright House Networks customers, enables access to Interactive TV services without the need for a converter. The first generation of CableCARD is limited to one-way functionality, and is designed to operate in conjunction with Digital Cable-Ready (DCR) television sets. These "special sets" have only recently become available through retailers. Customers can now enjoy Interactive TV services without the use of a converter.
2. Do I still need a converter?
The CableCARD enables access to the majority of Interactive TV services; however, certain advanced options are not available at this time. Those customers who have an interest in these services may wish to retain their converter to ensure access to the full suite of digital services.
The Navigator interactive on-screen guide, available as part of Interactive TV, allows families to set Parental Control, record, time shift, fast forward and reverse programming. It also provides for On Demand programming - one of our most popular features.
3. Are there products that are not enabled by the CableCARD?
CableCARDs are one-way devices, not two-way such as with the Digital, HD, DVR and HD DVR converters. Users of CableCARD televisions cannot use these features: Movies on Demand, Premium on Demand, Pay Per View events, Pay Per View programs and the Navigator interactive on-screen guide.
4. How do I obtain a CableCARD?
Customers who own the "special" television set (DCR set) should call and schedule a convenient appointment for the installation of a CableCARD. Contact customer care to arrange for an installation appointment. Online ordering of CableCARD is not available at this time.
