Award Winning Ready for the Storm Hurricane Booklets for Children Now Available in All Bright House Networks Payment Centers

Maitland, FL--Now that Central Florida’s unpredictable and volatile storm season is here, Bright House Networks has once again made its award-winning hurricane safety book available for free to customers.

Entitled “Ready for the Storm,” the children’s hurricane-safety and activity book is available at all Bright House Networks payment centers in Central Florida’s nine-county area. The book teaches the importance of hurricane preparedness, and educates families in a non-threatening way about how to stay safe during the hurricane season.

“Hurricanes can be very scary for everyone and especially children so learning how to prepare can provide a greater sense of security,” said J. Christian Fenger, President of Bright House Networks Central Florida Division.  “Ready for the Storm continues to be very popular because it provides a fun way to learn about how to prepare for the storm season.”

Three years ago, the 12-page booklet earned the cable industry’s prestigious national Beacon Award for Public Service.  It was selected out of more than 400 entries submitted by cable companies and cable programmers from around the United States.

“Ready for the Storm” explains the basic physics behind hurricane formation and what to expect when a hurricane approaches. Other activities in “Ready for the Storm” include a “Hurricane Word Search,” constructing a rain gauge, how to use a hurricane tracking chart, making a barometer, composing a safety checklist, creating a “Family Evacuation Plan,” and “Protecting Your Electronics.” The activity book concludes with suggestions on what to do after a hurricane, and provides a list for emergency phone numbers.

The “Ready for the Storm” activity book is designed to complement other hurricane education activities sponsored by Bright House Networks and its wholly owned news channel Central Florida News 13. For example, Bright House Networks is in close partnership with public hurricane preparedness officials throughout the company’s nine-county Central Florida service area to ensure constant and complete communications are maintained at all times.

In addition, the Bright House Networks web site, www.brighthouse.com, contains a variety of hurricane-related tips as well as links to other important websites with hurricane information.

A list of Bright House Networks payment centers now serving as “Ready for the Storm” pickup locations can be found at the Bright House Networks web site, www.brighthouse.com, or by calling 877/892-EASY.
