Some of Your PBS Stations to be Carried In Digital-only Format

What You Need to Know

Explorer 2200, 3200, 3250

  • Effective Friday, June 12th, Bright House Networks no longer carries some PBS stations in analog format in most viewing areas.

  • The change only affects customers who do not have a digital converter or digital-ready TV. For information about a Bright House Networks digital converter, see below.

  • The PBS channels affected by this change will remain in their original channel position and continue to be on the basic service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I just noticed I don’t have access to one or more of my PBS stations any more.

A: The change is the result of an agreement between PBS and all major cable companies across the country, including Bright House Networks. Bright House Networks is required to carry one (1) PBS station in both analog and digital format with multicast rights.

In the most of the Central Florida service areas that channel is WMFE. In Marion County, the primary PBS station is WUFT, and in Sumter County, WEDU. All other PBS stations are carried in an analog-only OR digital-only at the option of the station. Several of the PBS channels in our service areas chose digital-only carriage with multicast rights in order to continue carrying their multicast digital programming. These channels are still available on the same channel numbers, but you need a digital ready TV or device (with QAM tuner) or a digital set-top-box.

Q: Which PBS stations will be carried in Digital-Only format in my area?

A:   The following PBS stations will be carried in digital-only format:

  • WBCC - Orange, Seminole, Osceola Counties:   - UCFTV on Channel 1 and Channel 1169, Primary Station located on Channel 1168, BPS TV located on Channel 1170 and FL Knowledge Network located on Channel 1171.

  • WBCC - Brevard County: - Primary station on Channel 5 and Channel 1168, BPS TV located on Channel 1170 and FL Knowledge Network located on Channel 1171.

  • WDSC - Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Volusia and Flagler Counties:  Primary station on Channel 15 and Channel 1150(HD), WDSC-ED located on Channel 1151 and WDSC-WV located on Channel 1152.

Q: What do I need to do to continue to see the affected PBS stations?

A: In order to continue receiving the PBS station that will be carried in Digital-Only format, you will need a digital-ready TV or device (with QAM tuner) or a digital converter. Converters will be available from Bright House Networks for $1 per month for analog-only customers. Visit a local Bright House Networks Demonstration Center or call 1-866-309-EASY.

Q: What will replace the PBS stations' programming that is being removed?

A: No programming has been removed from the channel lineup. All existing programming continues to be available on its current channel location and tier of service in digital format. Customers will continue to receive one PBS network in analog format.

Q: Why did this happen on June 12th, the same day as the Digital Transition?

A: The PBS carriage agreement is not part of the Digital Transition of broadcast stations. The change was timed to occur simultaneously to make both transitions as easy as possible for everyone.
